The first appointment is an extended appointment, it’s 90 minutes which can really be an intake session. UPDATE: Beginning in 2019, the first appointment is now a 60-minute session to make scheduling more convenient, however we still cover the same issues, its just done in a more efficient way. It just focuses on getting history and a general idea of what you want to work on in therapy. Then the next few sessions are typically really starting the process. The most important thing in those first few sessions is consistency, so however often you decide to come, just make it consistent so you can build that momentum to get moving in a new direction. Otherwise, you may get back off track and stay in those same old patterns. The best thing to utilize those first few sessions for is to build some momentum, start looking at other options of ways to behave, or think, or feel, and get yourself moving in a new direction.
